An Affiliate of the Association for Career and Technical Education of Arizona (ACTEAZ).

 

Name

The name of the non-profit organization representing Family and Consumer Sciences Educators shall be F.C.S. ED, Inc.  

D.B.A. Arizona FCS Ed.

 

Our Mission

The mission of Arizona FCS Ed is to support the Association for Career and Technical Education by providing a professional organization for Family and Consumer Science educators. To provide opportunity for professional development and promote the exchange of ideas and materials related to FCS curriculum as well as providing scholarship opportunities for students of members in good standing.

 

Membership & Dues

Any current member of the Association for Career and Technical Education of Arizona, a Family and Consumer Sciences teacher, a retired Family and Consumer Sciences teacher is eligible for membership.

 

Annual membership is from August 1 to July 31.

 

The Executive Board and a majority vote of the membership in attendance at a FACS Ed Board business meeting shall set the amount of dues.  

  • 50% goes to Scholarship

  • 50% goes to Operating Costs

 

Current paid members have the privilege of:

  • Holding office

  • Voting

  • Nominating students for scholarships

  • Nominating fellow educators & business partners for Awards & Recognition

 

Executive Board

The election will be held by email prior to summer conference.  

The board members shall be elected by a majority of the current members participating in the vote.  

All board members shall assume their duties at summer conference for the upcoming term. Members will serve a single two-year term with an option to serve an additional two years as approved by the Executive Board. Executive Board members cannot serve more than two consecutive terms.  

 

Elected officers of the organization shall be:

  1. President

  2. Vice-President

  3. Secretary

  4. Treasurer

  5. Assistant Secretary / Treasurer

  6. Members-at -Large (5)

 

These officers, including the past-president and the FCS Program Specialist, ECE Education Training Program Specialist and the FCCLA State Director from the Arizona Department of Education shall comprise the Executive Board and shall meet when deemed necessary.  

 

Officers must be current paid FCS Ed members.

 

Duties of the Executive Board:

 

President:

The president shall preside at all meetings of the board and shall perform duties customary to that office.  The president shall chair the Executive Board and shall be a member ex officio of all committees of the board.  In the absence of the president, the vice-president shall perform all duties pertaining to the office of president.  

 

Vice-President:

Oversees committees and performs other duties assigned by the president.

 

Secretary:

Keep accurate records of the proceedings of all meetings of the Board, conduct correspondence and fulfill other duties as directed by the President.

 

Treasurer:

Sign tax return for the past fiscal year. (President or Vice President can sign if not available).  Receive and process all money paid to the organization, pay all bills in a timely manner, prepare and distribute a proposed annual budget at the first board meeting of the new year in collaboration with the president and serve on the Auditing Committee.

 

Assistant Secretary / Treasurer:

Work closely with and assume responsibility of the secretary or treasurer, as needed, throughout the term.

 

Members- at-Large:

These members may be assigned to serve on committees or undertake special projects.

 

Appointed Committees:

All committee chairpersons will be appointed by the president as needed, and serve a one-year term.  

Committee members will be appointed by the chairperson and will be members in good standing.

  5. Awards and Recognition Committee

  6. Public Relations and Social Media Committee

 

Auditing Committee: (2)

The President and Vice President shall select two (2) current FCS Ed members who do not hold a position on the Executive Board to perform an audit while at the summer conference.

 

The duties of the committee shall be limited to:

  • Review a copy of the treasurer’s record at the Summer Conference

  • Verify by signing the ledger at the date of verification

  • Treasurer to report the accuracy to the Executive Board at the following Executive Board meeting (Aug/ Sept)

 

Scholarship Committee:

At a minimum the committee shall consist of one FCS Ed Board member and one FCS Ed. member.

 

The duties of the committee shall be to:

  • Review and update Scholarship requirements and application annually

  • Committee will evaluate and score the qualified applications and determine recipients

  • Submit to ADE to be in the Luncheon Program.

  • Notify ACTE of our winners for publication

  • Notify the winners and nominators via mail, email and/or telephone if necessary.

 

Professional Development Committee:

At a minimum the committee shall consist of one FCS Ed Board member, the ADE program specialist and one FCS Ed. member.

 

The duties of the committee shall be to:

  • To identify areas of need for professional development within each of the content areas.

  • To identify industry professionals and businesses that are willing to facilitate professional development opportunities.

  • To coordinate, plan and execute all facets of professional development events.

 

Membership Committee:

At a minimum the committee shall consist of one FCS Ed Board member and one FCS Ed. member.

 

The duties of the committee shall be to:

  • To recruit new and maintain current members

  • To confirm with the treasurer that dues are current to date.

  • To operate and maintain the registration table at the FCS Ed luncheon during Summer Conference.

 

Awards and Recognition Committee:

At a minimum the committee shall consist of one FCS Ed Board member and one FCS Ed. member.

 

The duties of the committee shall be to:

  • Review and update award and recognition requirements and application annually

  • Committee will evaluate and score the qualified applications and determine recipients

  • Submit to ADE to be in the Luncheon Program.

  • Notify ACTE of our winners for publication

  • Notify the winners and nominators via mail, email and/or telephone if necessary.

  • Purchase and present recognition awards

 

Public Relations and Social Media Committee:

At a minimum the committee shall consist of one FCS Ed Board member and one FCS Ed. member.

 

The duties of the committee shall be to:

  • Compile and publish information as needed on website and other sources

  • Maintain and update the website monthly.

  • Develop a quarterly newsletter.

 

Changes in Bylaws:

These bylaws may be changed by a two-thirds vote of all those members voting either by mail or at any business meeting of Family and Consumer Sciences Educators and/ or the Executive Board.  

 

Notice of proposed changes in bylaws shall be mailed at least two weeks prior to voting.  

 

The Executive board shall review bylaws annually.
